History

Founded in 1893, FC Porto — the Dragons — are one of Portugal's "Big Three" and one of the most successful clubs the country has ever produced. Porto have won 31 Primeira Liga titles and 20 Taça de Portugal trophies, and are two-time champions of Europe (1987 and 2004) — the second under José Mourinho, beating Monaco 3–0 in the final. They have also lifted the UEFA Cup/Europa League twice and the Intercontinental Cup twice, cementing a proud European legacy.

Estádio do Dragão

Porto play their home matches at the Estádio do Dragão (Dragon Stadium), their striking home since 2003, with a capacity of 50,431. Built for Euro 2004 and renowned for its passionate, colourful support, it is one of the finest arenas in Portugal. The stadium has its own dedicated Metro station (Estádio do Dragão), connecting it directly to the city.

The 2026/27 Squad

Under head coach Francesco Farioli, the reigning Portuguese champions are captained by Portugal's outstanding goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Argentine anchor Alan Varela pulls the strings in midfield alongside Gabri Veiga, while young Spanish striker Samu Aghehowa — who scored 20 goals across all competitions last season — leads a dangerous attack featuring Brazilian winger Pepê.

2026/27 Expectations

As reigning Primeira Liga champions, Porto begin the season determined to stay at the summit of Portuguese football. Francesco Farioli's side aims to defend their league title against fierce rivals Benfica and Sporting, chase the Taça de Portugal, and make their mark on the UEFA Champions League at a roaring Estádio do Dragão.

Key Matches

The biggest fixture of Porto's season is O Clássico against arch-rivals Benfica — the fiercest and most watched rivalry in Portuguese football. Also unmissable are the heavyweight clashes with Sporting CP, the derby against neighbours Boavista, and the glamour of Champions League nights when Europe's elite visit the Dragão. These marquee games sell out the fastest, so early planning is essential.
